Dr. Ault, Knoxville Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist

Elizabeth Ault, M.D.

Dr. Ault is a board-certified psychiatrist providing psychiatric care to adults residing in Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama. She is well versed in addressing psychiatric conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and other psychiatric illnesses. Dr. Ault has over a decade of experience in providing medication management and therapy services. She also has experience treating patients with transcranial magnetic stimulation and esketamine for treatment-resistant depression.

I specialize in guiding young and middle-aged adults through difficult life transitions. Facing new academic or work demands, becoming a parent, or navigating relationship dynamics can present many challenges. I hope to guide you through these difficult times by building a supportive, non-judgmental relationship through which to collaborate to discover your ideal self. Psychiatry should not be one-size fits all. It is a dynamic art that takes time, attention to detail, and passion.
— Elizabeth Ault, MD

  • You will first be asked to complete a prospective patient questionnaire and a free 10-minute phone consultation in order to determine if we can meet your needs. This helps us to expedite scheduling and to ensure we are a good fit for you.

Once you have completed your consultation, the next step is your initial psychiatric evaluation appointment. We offer telemedicine appointments for patients located in TN, FL, or AL. We also offer in-person appointments at our Knoxville, TN office. You will be provided with detailed instructions prior to your visit. This initial visit will last ~45 minutes where we will gather detailed medical and psychiatric histories to establish an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.

If you have prior psychiatric treatment records for review, we ask that you have these faxed to our office 48 hours prior to your appointment.

  • The Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008 was created to regulate online internet prescriptions, is enforced by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) and also imposes rules around the prescription of controlled substances through telepsychiatry.

The Act requires any practitioner issuing a prescription for a controlled substance (including benzodiazepines, hypnotics, and stimulants) to conduct one in-person medical evaluation (with certain specified exemptions) prior to prescribing controlled substances. Once an in-person evaluation is completed, the practitioner may prescribe via telemedicine thereafter.

We are able to prescribe most psychiatric medications after a telemedicine exam. Only controlled substance prescriptions are restricted without an in person visit. Common controlled substances used to treat psychiatric conditions include benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, etc.), hypnotics (Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, etc.), and stimulants (Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, etc.).

Though these medications are often unnecessary given a number of available alternatives, we will be happy to coordinate with your local primary care provider should we determine treatment with one of these medications to be appropriate.

We are dedicated to providing personalized, inclusive mental health care and support. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment for our patients.

To ensure that we can adequately meet your needs, we ask that all potential new patients first complete a complementary 10-minute consultation call with Dr. Ault.

To get started, select the link below for online scheduling. If it is agreed that we are a good fit for you, an initial telemedicine visit will be scheduled.

  • Patients who have commercial insurance plans that are not accepted by our practice may have out-of-network (OON) benefits. We recommend you call your insurer to verify your out-of-network coverage. If covered, you may be able to receive reimbursement for all or part of your visit cost by filing an OON claim with your insurer.

OON patients will be responsible for the full cost of your visit due at the time of service. Our office is unable to file these OON claims on your behalf, but will provide you with an itemized invoice (called a superbill) which you may submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement decisions are made by your insurer, so we are unable to guarantee reimbursement.

To file an OON claim, you will need to follow your insurance company’s procedure and requirements. Instructions can usually be found on your insurer’s website or by calling their customer service line. Claims can generally be submitted by mail, via online submission through your insurer’s website, or using independent services such as Reimbursify.

[**Patients with Medicaid or Medicare are not eligible to apply for reimbursement.]
